Cataloochee Ranch sits high above Maggie Valley and has been welcoming visitors for over 80 years. The views are spectacular and, as any guest of the ranch can attest, the breakfasts are legendary. What could be a better way to close out the weekend than a hearty breakfast, a roaring fire in the fireplace, and a relaxed setting to converse with our visiting mushers?
Breakfast is the perfect opportunity to ask your questions, hear musher tales, and enjoy the camaraderie that is such a part of the sport. Breakfast, held from 8 a.m until 9:30 a.m., will cost $10.95 (free for guests lodging at the ranch) and reservations are required (828-926-1401).
After breakfast, the mushers will be outside with their dogs so that you can mingle with them. All visitors are welcome to join us for this free event. This is a great opportunity to see the dogs up close, ask questions about the equipment used, and hang out with the mushers. Depending on weather and trail conditions, mushers may hook up their teams and test some trails.
For the long term of our event, the exploration of the trails of Cataloochee Ranch is part of our goal Sunday. Our goal is to hold annual sanctioned races and fun runs on the ranch property. The mushers and ranch owners will be exploring trails to see what is viable. Visitors are welcome to explore the natural beauty of the ranch.
And, if you would like to ski, you can go just next door to Cataloochee Ski and enjoy the slopes.
